InStat is a perennial expert in sports statistics. That is why our working principles are based on a serious and thoughtful analysis, not on hasty conclusions. Statistical analysis of matches is being done by our employees who have an experience of working in coaching staffs and analytical departments of different teams. We permanently communicate with active coaches in order to learn, which parameters are informative as well as which of those may distract. Our specialists analyze every single action on the court where the ball is involved (passes, dribbling, shots), and, most importantly, we also analyze actions away from the ball!

Wins & Losses: Explanation and reasons

InStat statistical reports include statistical comparison of opposing teams. Through such comparison a coach or an analyst, that is studying a report, will easily find teams’ strengths and weaknesses. A number and efficiency of combinations used in a game is also worth mentioning. How many “post” plays did your team (and opponent) have? What was your favorite option out of a pick-n-roll: involving the third player, passing to the rolling man or popping out to the 3-point line? By seeing the efficiency of every single detail you can understand better, what exactly has to be improved for the next game.

InStat specialists analyze players on every position. Let’s take a point guard position for example. It is important to define, how often did he play a “handler”, where did he move and from what zone (“high”, “wing”), where he was more efficient? Every number in our reports is confirmed by video footage, stored on InStat Scout platform: those can be shared with players.

Official stats of any league is just a small part of what is needed for modern coaches and analysts. For example, one needs to rate center’s efficiency. What does one do in that case? An official boxscore contains only points, rebounds and blocks, while InStat provides a detailed analysis of “post”-plays with an accurate info about zones and turnaround sides. We talk about a total number of pick-n-rolls and screens, produced by a player. We also calculate how many of those plays ended up successful, resulting in a shot or an opponent’s foul.

Unique data

InStat reports contain stats for unique parameters. On a separate page one can learn about different lineups’ efficiency: every single configuration of fives used during the game. That includes not only a simple “plus/minus” ratio, but also some advanced data for different players while they are on the floor. Through analyzing that kind of information one can define the least efficient lineups and use them as rare as possible in future.

One more unique feature is your players efficiency against different opponents. During every attack our analysts define opposing pairs of players (if zone defense not applied). Of course we record and consider switches, too. As a result, we do have an answer for an extremely important question regarding every basketball player: against which opponent an exact athlete’s actions are more efficient? One can also see which switches helped to generate points the most. In future, while creating a game plan, one can adjust combinations the way that will allow any player to face the easiest opponent.
